Composed by De Turnhout. Miscellaneous Music. Early Music Library. Choral or Vocal Music. 3 Scores. Published by Magnamusic Distributors Inc (MM.EML0329).

These two chansons come from "Sacrarum ac aliarum cantionum trium vocum, tarn viva voce, auam instrumentis cantatu commodissimarum", published by Pierre Phalese in 1569. As the title suggests, this collection of 3-part music includes motets (largely of a non-liturgical kind) and chansons. Many of the latter are parody chansons, based on well-known pieces such as Lassus "Susanne un jour" or Sermisys "Jouissance vous donneray". The two pieces here printed are also based on models by Lassus, the popular 5-part "Mon cueur se recommande a vous" and the 4-part "Las, voules vous". Gerard de (van) Turnhout was born around 1520, surprisingly enough, in Turnhout (60km east of Antwerp) and began his career in Antwerp, where he worked until 1571. He was then hired by Philip II of Spain, and the following year he moved to Madrid , where he died in 1580.
