    Pour le Piano

First hearing? My college piano Teacher performed this, but I don't recall the occasion, perhaps in the early '80's. It might have been during her own work on her Doctorate in performance concurrent with my lessons. She had a marvelous sense of taste & a delicate touch combined with the required balance of power, fluency and virtuosity needed. Before then I hadn't been reared on or familiar with French composers. I was exposed to many others besides Debussy. No branding intended but I've long preferred Alfred's cast of Editors for its products: practical for most teaching purposes due to their reasonable prices, high quality paper, type & fonts; current, accurate research & formats. This work is exciting, grand w/out pomposity or vulgarity, & fits well under one's hands. R.I.P. Maurice Hinson.
