Fixes au VIIIe siecle, les offices des tenebres prennent place a l'apogee des celebrations de Paques, c'est a dire aux trois derniers jours de la Semaine sainte, le Triduum Sacrum, en reunissant les Matines (la fin de la nuit) et les Laudes (le debut du jour), d'ou le nom d'Office des tenebres. A partir de la renaissance, les Offices des tenebres deviennent des spectacles prises, pour lesquels les compositeurs produisent des oeuvres dramatiques avec les Lecons des tenebres mais encore Les lamentations de Jememie. En France, l'apogee se situe sous l'ancien Regime. Les Offices des Tenebres sont alors un spectacle prise.

    This is beautiful music, beautifully edited. The figured bass realization is smooth and unobtrusive, the layout is clear, and the adapted instrumentation makes sense. This should make this lovely piece more accessible to so many musicians.
