Good Collection to Have
I'm an adult who has taken voice lessons for a few years, and this is a good learning tool for intermediate level. The CD is helpful, and so are the notes on the composer, history of the composition, and the pronunciation of the Italian.

Great collection for any level (6 thumbs up)
My teen, My college level student, and myself,, (an adult beginner), are all enjoying working on these classic pieces. The historical background of each piece is interesting.I appreciate John Glenn Patons research and enjoy the ornamentation.I like learning the more authentic 17th and 18th century style in this collection.

Excellent primer for voice students
Most of these "arie antiche" are widely accepted and used as teaching pieces for students just beginning to sing classical music. Paton's edition is far more solid than the Schirmer, and includes IPA transcriptions and notes on pronunciation. These books are indispensable for voice teachers, and I recommend them for any high school or college student who is serious about singing classical music.

Not Useful for Altos
The selections are great, the translations helpful, and the Italian language notes are fantastic, however, for the music in this book is really not suitable for altos. I sing alto II and most of the songs were just a bit too high out of my range.

Great!
I used this book to prepare for a vocal competition through my school, and it has a beautiful accompaniment with a great range for all of the arias. I learned the aria "Se Tu M'ami" from this book, and it is absolutely gorgeous!

A Multi Purpose Must Have
Well, I am a vocal student (sophomore) at a performing arts high school. The majority of the music we sing for vocal solo competitions, that sometimes is state level, comes from this collection and it is accepted in florida as competition material. It is an extensive collection with many different classical styles to choose from, and it has wonderful background information on the songs as well as phonetics. It is a must have addition to any professional vocal singer's collection. I know that as a vocal professional, it was worth my money.

Good for first year vocal majors
this collection of "art" is a "must-have" for any first year music majors with any inspiration to do well. Between the translations, the texts, the music or even just the challenges you will endure, the music offers a wonderous amount of flexibility for your voice and ability to learn.
