Good book

The excercises themselves are well thought out. My only disappointment was that the print was a bit small but not enough to be put off.

Instant improvement

Many exercises have that one phrase you just can't learn, but these are equally frustrating throughout the entire piece. Practicing these caused Instant improvement.

A MUST!

I give this to all my students, even some middle school kids. Great for building tone, stamina and key signatures not too difficult for intermediate level students. Love the articulations written. Nice patterns for kids to learn the importance of executing the articulations accurately.

Excellent exercise

I'm getting back into playing the sax and this is an excellent book to get the fingering and breathing back.

Practice, Practice

Art is 10% talent and creative process, 90% work and this is a very good way to program your day.

Harder than they look

These studies are all in easy keys. They look benign until you get midway through then they become finger busters. Great for warming up. Great for beginners if you take them slowly at first then work up to speed. Larry Teal recommended them in The Art of the Saxophone - that's good enough for anyone.

Very good book

Got this book of exercises after taking a 20 year break from playing the sax. I was at an intermediate/advanced level then and the book really helps. Music is easy to read and the exercises really help.

After Klose then go to Giampieri

After you or your students get used to playing Klose etudes move on to: Saxophone Method by Alamiro Giampieri. (Alto Sax). Woodwind Method. 32 pages. Published by Ricordi. (50009920) It is Klose on steriods. You will play in every key (Major and Melodic minors). I like to tell people/students "it will change your life" but it really will change your playing and take you to the next level. They start off in easy keys - take you though the harder keys and if you just "hang in there" it then transitions back into easy keys again building the confidence of the player back up. Also works on rhythm patterns, articulations and I used to practice these also with my own jazz articulation. Challenging - but not so challenging as to "shut down" the player or student. Enjoy!

Fun Way to Build Technique

I have been using this book for two weeks now and love it. My skill level is early intermediate and the exercises are fun and often right down challenging, but my technique is improving rapidly. Even my music instructor has complimented my progress. These exercises are helping me to increase speed and agility overall and particularly in the high and low registers.

Charlie Parker used Klose books

In an interview between Paul Desmond & Charlie Parker, Paul mentions a quote that Charlie learned from the Klose book. Charlie Parker admits to it ("that was all done with books, you know... not mirrors)and that without learning technique your talent basically goes unpolished.[...] Although Charles may have been in the harder Klose books, this is a great place to start. Harder Books (worth the price): * 25 Etudes De Mecanisme/Alphonse Leduc (524804770) *25 Exercices Journaliers/ Marcel Mule (524037820)
