  • December 19, 2012 MUST HAVE!

These inventions are a must have for any serious pianist. These are original exercises in fingerings found in real music and are superb for hand independence. As always, Henle has done a great job keeping composer originality/intention and the pages are easily kept flat on the piano! Great purchase...

  • June 03, 2011 Just what I needed

I wanted a copy of the 2-part inventions that had larger notes than my 55 year old Shirmer edition. Customer service was very helpful, suggested this edition and it is just what I needed for my aging eyes.

  • February 23, 2009 NOT the best way to learn these pieces !

As a beginning pianist but a musician(guitarist)for over 30 years ,this and Palmer edition have their pluses and minuses . I like these the best because they are the least cluttered and each invention covers only 2 pages unlike the Palmer. What I have found most helpful is to...

get a recording of these that you like and slow it down to figure out how the performer is using the various ornaments. For me this was quite a revelation. I picked Tatiana Nikolayeva and she uses ornaments that aren't in either edition and leaves out others that are in both. She also plays certain ornaments different than the text even when she is placing it in the same place as the text. So this process has made learning these so much easier . They make a lot more sense musically.

  • May 08, 2007 Wonderful Music in a Great Quality Book

I have always loved the Bach two-part inventions. How great to have these published in a beautiful book with quality muted paper. The two-part inventions are fun and challenging. The right hand does one thing while the left another.I learned them as a kid and am enjoying...

them again now, in my later years. You never really tire of them. How can you beat Bach?
