    Difficulty Level:
  • November 19, 2013 Poor printing

I've had the two volume Schirmer/Epstein edition since the early 1970s, and decided it was time for a replacement. But this Hal Leonard reprint is very much an inferior product, compared to the large and crisp print on thick yellow paper of the original. The printing is smaller...

and not very clear; it looks like it's been xeroxed, but it's probably just from a regular laserjet printer. I doubt it will last as long as the original has.

    Difficulty Level:
  • April 20, 2011 worst edition I have seen

This book is the most confusing, over-edited I have ever seen. First of all, the sonatas are in a completely random order, which is insane, considering that there is a "note on the numbering of the sonatas" in the preface containing the correct order. Also, sonatas "XIII" and "XIX...

" are not in any other edition I've seen, while K. 570 is missing completely! The book is printed on what seems like low-quality copy paper, and is barely held together by glue. Pages have actually fallen out of my copy. Every page is completely crammed, probably to try to save paper, but at the expense of making it illegible. Every page is strewn with editorial slurs, accents, dynamics, tempi, articulation and pedal markings. This combined with extremely poor printing quality makes the worst possible edition of the Mozart sonatas that you can buy. I strongly recommend saving up some money and buying the henle edition, which is fantastic. The henle edition is definately worth the money.

    Difficulty Level:
  • September 17, 2008 I had to return

Totally disappointing. Many notes were indistinguishable if they were 1/16 or 1/32 or something else due to poor printing. I had to return with a letter and marks on the pages to point the problems, but I got refund only amount of the book (not shipment), which means...

Sheet Music Plus thought my return was unreasonable. I don't agree that they continue to sell this.

These are definitely not academicly correct. Indeed the numbering system is completely illogical. However, the price is RIGHT!!
