The enormous success of Handel's concertos for organ and orchestra has repeatedly aroused initiatives to transcribe them. The most famous are incontestably by William Thomas Best in the 19th century and by Marcel Dupre in the 20th century. Our perception of early music has evolved, and other transcribers have recently taken up the task in a more baroque style. So why propose yet another version? The originality of this version mainly resides in the fact that it generously develops many passages noted ad libitum by Handel (and intended to be improvised), in a style that is deliberately in continuity with the rest of the original composition.

What a delight to be able to play these gorgeous works at the piano or harpsichord, as well as the organ, from two staves! The score is spiral bound in the landscape orientation commonly used for organ music. The transcription is complete and clear, and faithful to the baroque aesthetic...

. It also includes well-marked, adventurous and idiosyncratic ad libitum realizations. Organ and orchestral passages are also clearly marked, as are characteristic pedal passages, allowing the player to clearly delineate the parts. All told, this delight-filled keyboard transcription is terrific addition to my baroque keyboard library right alongside the Bach transcriptions, and well worth the price.
