Some Important Search Tips
All databases are unique (and a little quirky). Here are some really useful search tips for ours:

1. Choose from the pull-down search menu carefully. The search menu tells us where in the database to look for your request. If you want to find a favorite song title but search under "Artist" you are sure to miss out on many, if not all, of the choices we offer.

If you're confused about the best search option for you, try a few different ones.

2. If searching for a song, check that you've chosen "Song Name" from the search pull-down menu. Then, TYPE ONLY THE EXACT NAME OF THE SONG. Do not include any extra words (e.g., do not include lyrics, the artist, the instrument, etc.).

3. Try using just the last names of artists/composers. Publishers vary widely in the way they reference famous artists and composers. Limit yourself to last names and you're sure to find worthwhile titles that you might otherwise miss.

4. Try fewer words at first go. For example, search "Beatles" rather then "Beatles tab". You can always narrow your results down further by using the "Narrow these results" option located at the top and bottom of the search results page.

5. If you're not sure of the spelling of an artist's name, browse our Artist A-Z list. We list popular artists in alphabetical order.

Sort the Results to Suit Your Needs
We automatically sort search results in best-selling order. You can also sort your results by newest release, by price or in alphabetical order. Click on the sort links (at the top of the search reesults) to change the sort order. Voila!

Narrow Down Your Choices
If your first search yields too many titles to choose from, use the "Narrow these results" box at the top or bottom of the page to add one or two additional search words. This will narrow down your results.

For instance, say you first search "Beatles." You can narrow our 400+ Beatles titles by adding "flute" to the "Narrow these results" box. You'll then find we have four great Beatles titles for flute.

Zero Results
Sometimes a search will yield zero results. If you've tried some of the tips on searching above or on our Zero Results page, and are still not finding what you want, there is good chance the song is not currently in print.

Older titles often go out-of-print once the demand for them falls below a certain level. Copyrights for sheet music also change hands, so songs can switch between being in-print and out-of-print.

If you're looking for new song or artist such as a pop title recently released on CD, please be aware that it can sometimes take a while (occasionally 6-12 months) for the sheet music to be published. The artist and composer want the sheet music and its presentation to be perfect! Please check back at a later date to see if your title has been released.
