Alma redemptoris mater

By Johannes Ockeghem

Detailed Description

Alma redemptoris mater composed by Johannes Ockeghem (1410-1497). For SATB choir a cappella. Liturgical Use: Marian Feasts. Text: Latin. Choral. Vocal score. Text Language: Latin. Duration ca. 5 minutes. Published by Notre Dame Choir Editions (PE.NDC026).

With Text Language: Latin. Choral.

An exquisite setting of the Marian antiphon built around an elegantly paraphrase of the original plainsong in the alto voice. The unusually high tessitura mitigates to some degree the composer's characteristically dense polyphonic textures so that the piece unfolds with a limpid grace and a mood of quiet rapture.
