Composed by Nigel Williams. Christmas,Folk,Sacred,Standards. Octavo. 4 pages. Nigel Williams #2837545. Published by Nigel Williams (A0.763240).

This text by the American poet Longfellow is set for SAB choir with either piano or organ accompaniment. The melody has the feel of a folk song and is in the baritone part throughout. With a range of just one octave and not going above middle C, the baritone part is tuneful and easy to learn and the use of unison and simple harmony in the soprano and alto parts enhances the musical effect dramatically. The keyboard accompaniment is independent of the choral parts and the left hand hints at the ringing of the bells. (It would be very easy to add a Hand Bell part). The accompaniment also contains a delicious hint at another well-known Christmas carol. 'Christmas Bells' has been widely praised and has been performed by high school, college and church choirs in NZ, USA and UK.
