Composed by Eugene Astapov. 20th Century,Contemporary,Standards. Individual part. 5 pages. EAMUSIC #5357. Published by EAMUSIC (A0.930384).

Contemplation I was inspired by 19th century Russian poetry, particularly that of M. Lermontov whose work had greatly influenced me in the past. In fact I composed a cello octet "Mist of Tears", based on a beautiful poem by Lermontov. This particular piece for solo cello concentrates on the multiplicity of sonic realms that a single instrument can create whether it is by color, register or tonal material. After a long, pondering exposition and development, the piece dissipates through the upper register representing light breeze and relief. It runs about 7-8 minutes in performance.
