By Johann Pachelbel

Listen
Detailed Description

Canon in D (for mixed clarinet quartet) composed by Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706). Arranged by Phillip Pollard. For Clarinet. Sacred, Movies/TV, Classical Period, Wedding. Advanced Intermediate. Set of Parts, Score. Crescendo Communications #q25. Published by Crescendo Communications (S0.11144).

"A wonderful arrangement of ""Cannon in D"" - Pachelbel's most famous tune. This arrangement is faithful to the original string parts, placing them in the appropriate range and key for clarinet quartet. This is easy to play, and beautiful to hear. The 4th part is written for Bass Clarinet but it can be played on a standard (soprano) clarinet quite effectively. This is a great arrangement to have on hand for weddings, holiday events, pops concerts, and as incidental chamber music. It is very versatile tune to program. Let your bass clarinet player take a break, and have the upper three players run through it once or twice, and then an all-through with all players and you'll be set. All three upper voices have the lead at various times. The highest note required in all the parts is high F. (If high notes are a trouble for you, however, the few altissimo notes can be played down an an octave without any loss to the character of the piece.) This transcription is by Phillip Pollard. He is an active clarinet player in the San Jose area: He is the bass clarinet player of the Livermore-Amador Symphony, plays alto, bass and contra clarinets in the Ohlone Wind Orchestra, plays soprano clarinet as the concert master of the Ohlone Community Band, and plays bass and contra clarinets in the Clarinet Fusion clarinet choir. He has been arranging for clarinet choir for over 15 years.".
