Bread of Heaven

By David Ashley White

Detailed Description

Bread of Heaven composed by David Ashley White (1944-). For SATB choir, Organ. Parish/Cathedral. Choral, Eucharist. Medium. Choral octavo. Published by Paraclete Press (PL.0206).

This lovely work uses a text of Josiah Conder and uses a most beguiling melody as its basis. After a short organ introduction the first verse is given over to the women!s voices mainly duetting in thirds and sixths. The second verse develops this idea further using all four voices. This is followed by a brief coda that fades away as the organ concludes the piece. The vocal parts are most gratifying to sing and the organ part is discreetly supportive. This anthem would be appropriate as an introit or during Communion.
