Magnificat on the Fifth Tone (Choral Score)

By Kevin Vogt

Detailed Description

Magnificat on the Fifth Tone (Choral Score) composed by Kevin Vogt. For SATB choir, congregation, double choir, organ, optional brass quartet, timpani. Advent, Annunciation, Evening. Moderately Difficult. Choral Score. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers (MN.80-007A).

This expansive setting of the Canticle of Mary is ideal for festival celebrations of Vespers/Evening Prayer. The congregation sings a substantial, memorable refrain (in Latin), while entire canticle text is set in English for SATB choir in a style reminiscent of the celebrated canticles by Herbert Howells. The refrain/verse pattern is broken around the "golden mean" of the piece by a rhythmic antiphonal dialogue on the Gregorian fifth psalm tone, either between choir and congregation or two choirs.
