Rhythm 'n' Blues by Soon Hee Newbold. For string orchestra. FJH Beginning Strings. Grade 1. Score and set of parts. Composed 2006. Duration 2:20. Published by The FJH Music Company Inc (FJ.ST6109).
One of my favorite ways to practice and learn rhythms is to clap and slap. Based on a basic blues line, Rhythm 'n' Blues introduces students to more complicated rhythms with a strictly percussion-only section that uses claps, snaps, and stomps. These percussive effects may be substituted with any kind of creative technique, such as shouts, taps, or clucks with the tongue. The piece may be performed with straight eighth notes, or in a swing style for more advanced groups. Overall, play with confidence, and dig into the string without being too legato.
