Native American Thoughts

By Sherri Porterfield

Detailed Description

Native American Thoughts composed by Sherri Porterfield. For 3-part mixed choir, flute, hand drum, windchimes and piano. Concert, Multicultural. Octavo. Published by Heritage Music Press (LO.15-2145H).

These three marvelous originals featuring Native American texts may be performed either individually or as a set. "Give Thanks" is a reflective, a cappella setting of a speech by Chief Tecumseh (Shawnee) and features a solo flute. "Earth Song" is taken from the famous Chief Seattle speech and features hand drum and wind chimes. Mixed meters and dance-like rhythms enhance this piece and create a fun challenge. The simplicity of the eloquent Ute prayer, "Teach Me," will help singers and audiences reflect on the fact that our earth has much to teach us if we will just take the time to be taught.
