Available for the first time in an engraved edition, this piano trio, the only one written by Harrison, was commissioned in 1989 by the Mirecourt Trio. It had a bumpy history: besides being the first work written after his triple-bypass surgery, work on it was interrupted first by an earthquake and then by the death of his friend and mentor Virgil Thomson (to whom one of the movements of this work is dedicated). Outside of that chromatic movement, the work is modal and melodic.
