This tried and true collection of intermediate works from several style periods is useful for children, teens and adults. The printing is clear and spacious. The editor even includes a list of the pieces in order of difficulty. This feature could be useful for the harried piano teacher choosing repertoire in a hurry, or for a reasonably self-directed student that is trying to decide what to play next. As a teacher, I've put that list to both of these uses. I believe there is also an audio CD of this collection available for purchase which could be helpful for a student who needs some background on musical style. This collection is great for first time intermediate students, adults returning to piano study, transfers who can play harder music but have some weaknesses in reading, technique or style to shore up, and for more advanced students who could use a quick-study piece or sight-reading music.

This book is an alternative to Masterwork Classics for students who need to develop skills in lyric pieces. All 4 periods are still represented. The books include outstanding pieces that will stay with the student for life. I recommend Masterpieces with Flair be used along with this book. Each book covers two levels; this one covers level 4&5. You use two books for two levels; no net change!Even hard to please students find this music appealing!

I'm really impressed with this anthology. I was looking for sight-reading material for my more advanced students, and for new material for my intermediate students who want to play something besides Adele (smile). This book fills the bill on both counts. Here you'll find many of the greatest composers represented---from Baroque to 20th-century---and a number of lesser-known but delightful pieces that deserve exposure. These are all pieces that could be played in recital, too. (And my advanced students LOVE playing these melodious and, for them, easier-to-learn pieces!) Highly recommended.
