Hal Leonard GM

I use this book for teaching beginning students of all ages and find it very easy to adapt to their individual needs. I have tried other method books and keep coming back to this one. I do wish it had a companion theory book and/or a fun book with more practice songs though. This would help the younger students.

Guitar Music

This book teaches students about the guitar. It teaches what string and what fret to use in order to play a certain melody note or a chord.

Emphasis on Note-Reading

I've used this book to teach guitar classes for some 8 semesters at a large United Methodist church--teens and adults. Thorough music- and note-reading. Fun to pick the melodies along with the CD. Teens don't seem to mind the corny rock songs. Chords are interspersed, but most students want more chords and less music-reading. I add cCm power chords to the mix, too.
