Motet and Fugue by Mark Walker. For concert band. Sacred. Grade 3. Score. Published by Neil A. Kjos Music Company (KJ.WB66F).
Two contrasting styles are represented in this work for concert band. The Motet reflects characteristics of 16th century Renaissance choral writing. In contrast, the Fugue demonstrates techniques used in keyboard writing of the late Baroque (1700-1750). Musical contrast between the movements is created by the chordal texture, slow rhythm and use of modal harmony in the Motet followed by a contrapuntal texture, faster rhythm and strict adherence to major and minor scales in the Fugue.
