Detailed Description

Variations On A Theme Of Glinka composed by Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908). Arranged by Samuel Adler. Wind Ensemble. Published by Advance Music (AV.60000).

For solo oboe (or soprano saxophone) and wind ensemble (military band). Military bands at the time (1878) had all the instruments doubled many fold which would make the accompaniment much too heavy. Samuel Adler has tried to lighten the texture a bit without altering the basic sound. Instrumentation: piccolo, 2 flutes, oboe, 3 Bb clarinet, bass clarinet, 2 bassoon, solo oboe, solo Bb soprano saxophone, 2 Bb flugelhorn/cornet, 4 Bb trumpet, 4 f horn, 3 trombone, euphonium, tuba, string bass, timpani, cymbals/bass drum, snare drum, triangel.
