Written in 1854, Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair was dedicated to composer Stephen Foster's wife, Jane McDowall. The opening lyrics, "I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair," are said to have inspired the popular 1960s sitcom, I Dream of Jeannie.
