Danse Macabre, Op. 40 by Camille Saint-Saens (1835-1921) and Camille Saint-Sa. Arranged by Franz Liszt. For Piano. Editions Durand. 22 pages. Editions Durand #DF15782. Published by Editions Durand (HL.50564857).
Composed in 1874, Danse macabre was inspired by a poem by Henri Cazalis describing a dance of corpses, summoned by Death in person, who beats time on a tomb with his heel. Liszt transcribed the piece a few years later in his unmistakably brilliant way.
