Funf Ophelia-Lieder (fur Singstimme und Streichquartett transkribiert von Aribert Reimann). Composed by Johannes Brahms (1833-1897). Arranged by Aribert Reimann. For voice and string quartet. This edition: ED 8836. Vocal Music. Grade 4. Score and parts. Composed 1873/1997. 20 pages. Duration 5 minutes. Published by Schott Music (SD.49008175).
Another collection in the series of arrangements of lieder of the German Romantik for voice and string quartet by Reimann (6 Songs Op. 107 by Robert Schumann, ED 8329 and Franz Schubert's Mignon, ED 8466, have already been published). The nearly aphoristic Ophelia-songs keep closely to Brahms' original - a different compositional approach to the one in the Mendelssohn adaptation below, where songs and fragments are interspersed with longer, deliberately contemporary intermezzi and the whole forms an extended cycle.
