About Robert W. Smith

Robert W. Smith is one of the most popular and prolific composers of concert band and orchestral literature in America today. He has over 400 publications to his name, with the majority carried by Alfred Publishing Co., Inc. He received a Bachelor's of Music Education from Troy State University (AL) and a Master's of Music from the University of Miami (FL).

Mr. Smith's original works for both the concert band and orchestra have been performed throughout the world. His first two symphonies (The Divine Comedy and The Odyssey) have captured the imaginations of musicians and audiences in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. The Tempest and other works for the developing ensemble have become standards in the band repertoire. As a conductor and clinician, he has performed across the United States and in Canada, Japan, Australia, Italy, Austria and the United Kingdom.

Mr. Smith's compositions and arrangements have been used in a variety of situations including major television network broadcasts. From welcoming ceremonies in Japan honoring President Ronald Reagan to the Olympic Games, spanning the opening of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade telecast, the Ringling Brothers/Barnum & Bailey Circus and Opening Day at Dodger Stadium, his music is widely accepted by all ages.
