About Robert C. Lau

Robert C. Lau holds music degrees from Lebanon Valley College, The Eastman School of Music and The Catholic University of America. He has taught in the public schools of Pennsylvania and New York, and was a member of the faculty of Lebanon Valley College from 1968-89, holding the academic rank of professor and chairing the Department of Music from 1978-89. He is currently an adjunct member of the Humanities Division of Penn State-Harrisburg.

A native of Lebanon, Dr. Lau began violin study at the age of seven with Harold Malsh. While in high school, he was concertmaster of the Harrisburg Youth Orchestra, concertmaster of the District Orchestra, co-concertmaster of the Pennsylvania All-State orchestra and participated in the All-Eastern United States Orchestra. As a student at Lebanon Valley College, he studied violin and viola with Thomas Lanese and was a member of the Harrisburg Symphony.

While pursuing graduate study at the Eastman School of Music, Dr. Lau studied viola with Francis Tursi. He has done additional graduate work at Columbia University, New York, and Westminster Choir College. He has conducted and adjudicated choral and orchestra festivals in Pennsylvania, Maryland and New York.

In addition to his work in education, Dr. Lau serves as Organist/Choirmaster at Mt. Calvary Episcopal Church in Camp Hill, PA, and maintains a private studio in Camp Hill, teaching violin and viola.

An active composer, Dr. Lau has in excess of 100 choral and organ works published by music publishing houses including Augsburg, Harold Flammer, EC Schirmer, Lorenz, Mark Foster, Choristers Guild, Theodore Presser and Warner Brothers. He has been commissioned to write choral, organ, string and band works for churches, academic institutions and solo performers. For his work in published choral music, he has been awarded five Special Awards by ASCAP.

Dr. Lau holds professional affiliation with the American Guild of Organists, the American Federation of Musicians, the American Choral Directors Association and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. He is listed in Who's Who in the East and Personalities in America.
