This is a very good primer lesson book… A little long on the pre-reading, but once the staff gets introduced, it’s very nice.

I have been using this book for at least 10 years. It is my favorite. Nearly every beginner starts in the 4 books of this series.

Loved the 1st Edition and have found this 2nd Edition book a most successful primer both in its gentle learning progression with music of interest. Successful in maintaining interest while establishing joyful and achievable piano and musical notation skills and with all my students.

I had not taught piano for several years and had never used Alfred literature. I was very pleased with the layout of the book. I am anxious to start teaching my grandson.

When this series came out 15 or so years ago, I switched all my students to it. I have found it to be well thought out and such a good stepwise progression that the students make rapid progress and rarely, if ever, hit a wall of understanding. The music is interesting throughout and there are many companion books so you can challenge the faster learners with as much material as you like. I have also used the older beginner series for ages 10-11 through adult and have found that just as good.

I am impressed with the grasp the Fabers have of HOW students learn to read. They don't skip steps. Do all 4 books, and cover EVERYTHING on the page. This produces the best results.I also have learned to not PUSH the process. This is a great place to start, but if your student is young (5 or 6) start them with the Young Beginners books instead.

I have been extremely impressed with everything in the faber and faber series so far. i especially love the fact that they are very intentional about including improvisation, sight-reading, and ear-training in nearly each lesson. By that I mean that either the lesson book, technique book, or theory book includes those things. I also appreciate the excellent teacher/student duets. They are fun to play...not using the predictable chord progressions that you might expect in a beginning method.

This primer book is ok for a child first learning to play, but older beginners or anyone who has any kind of other musical background can skip the primer level books and jump right into Level 1.

After many years of teaching, I had some transfer students who were using this method. I was impressed with their reading at the higher levels they were using, and decided to give the beginning levels a try also. They are great. It is obvious that much study has gone into how a child learns, and that has been applied to the lessons. I have switched all my students to this method for reading.
